It has roguelike elements similar to Slay the Spire, but that’s that’s not what I like about it.

          Mild spoiler

That’s just a misdirection for what the game is actually going for, in a similar way that the “Dating Sim” description is a misdirection for Doki Doki Literature Club.

I will say it has a distinct ending, unlike Slay the Spire.

It’s a great game to go in blind for, so I’m not going to go into too much more detail.

Then you need to keep going. Look for things to do outside of the normal gameplay. There’s more to the game than what’s initially presented.

::: spoiler I searched around the room, completed few puzzles and I got the film roll (which I’m guessing is used to win the game, since the slime says to defeat “him”), but I’m not seeing anything else. :::

Personally, I don’t see it mentioned, but during Next Fest I found and loved both Balatro and “Menace From The Deep”. Lovecraftian Cosmic-Horror deckbuilder with some nice twists. The amount of polish is pretty high, the game is quite fun in its current demo, and it seems like it’s a passion project from one Ukrainian. I came here to see what other people had found, and just downloaded like 10 demos. Guess I’ll be following up here.

Balatro is super good if you haven’t played it yet. It’s the passion project of one guy that feels more cohesive than some AAA games I’ve played

I didn’t expect to like Balatro as much as I did. I’m a big fan of deck builders but the poker theme was not super compelling to me. But wow, I’ve had a blast with it. Just boils down to a really good set of mechanics and some ridiculous fun builds. I don’t think it will hold my attention as long as like Slay the Spire or Monster Train but it was well worth the price.

I don’t know, the prices aren’t really a sale on any of the games I see popping up and honestly in terms of mechanics I still don’t think you can beat Slay The Spire and Monster Train.

edit Vault Of The Void and Tainted Grail look good too, Chrono Ark as well.

I don’t have it, I think it changes up the game quite a bit and thus is more geared for someone who has played the shit out of the base game.

I do think Slay The Spire and Monster Train are basically must buys for the genre as boring of answer as that is. They both just have so much depth to their mechanics, and depth of mechanics is everything in this genre.

Adds an epilogue additional run mechanics and another faction.

You will be ok without it to start.if you like the game at all it is worth buying.

Totally agree with other comment. It and slay the spire are staples of the genre.
