  • I know that I’ve been blocked by some people because I only see some comments if I load Lemmy in a private (not signed in). This is likely because of my anger toward the genocide in Palestine last year, when I got a bit unhinged about what it would mean for the election in November. Oh well, I don’t care.

I haven’t been plagued by abusive users. Maybe try lurking for a bit to check the tone of communities before contributing. I find Lemmy welcoming. I gave up on Reddit in the mids of the last decade. We might approach web forums from very different places (example: I love the text-only Hacker News).

I love that Eratosthenes was able to estimate the circumference of the earth with the amount of math we had in his era. Meanwhile, modern flat-earthers are still making me want to vomit.

I used to see fractals in the shadows on LSD. I couldn’t think of the word “fractal,” and told my friend, “You know, that thing in math?” And he said to me, “When you trip you see math?!” Fun times. To be a teen again.

  • I welcome my country’s (USA) cutting off at the knees to provide greater diversity in tech allocation. It made sense to rely on corporations in the USA when our leadership wasn’t outright hostile to the rest of the world, at least from the perspective of the people making such decisions. We have proven to be a rogue state. We can be trusted with nothing.

Isolate us and reduce the amount of harm we are capable of delivering. My sincerest apologies to the rest of the world for the shitty decisions of my fellow citizens.
