This used to work when the guy worked for the restaurant and had, like, three pizzas to deliver and an empty backseat, but now they’ll have six different bags with food from nine takeaways organised with four different delivery apps and doing some realtime Travelling Salesman maths.

Reason 475 to stop using those apps. Even if your driver doesn’t pick up multiple orders from the restaurant you ordered from, which was rare the last time I used them, they may still be doing multiple orders. Your food will be cold and smell weird.

It’s basically why I don’t order pizza anymore. Even if you directly order from the store they just partner out with a random app. Like no I don’t want my pizza to arrive 2 hours later cold. Thanks though

But you aren’t paying them to drive you so it’s not a taxi. You’re just hitchhiking

Still bad. It’s a commercial vehicle and the driver doesn’t have a license to transport people. At least in my country those would be serious issues when it comes to determine liability.

All my cities deliveries are on escooters (or whatever those very cool looking electric balancing unicycle things are), I am not sure I know the delivery dude well enough for that level of intimacy.

Sure, but gas is expensive and margins are small on food. The weather here in the Netherlands is very similar and absolutely no one delivers by car. Way to slow and expensive.

He’s English it seems. I guess when it’s wet for 3/4 of a year the moped isn’t the preferred choice for delivery drivers.

        Are you made of sugar?

I’m Dutch, the weather here is at least as bad as it is in the UK. Almost every food delivery is done on (e-)bikes, with the occasional moped.

“are you made of sugar?” Is how I’m going to question the fortitude of people from now on

It’s commonly used by mom’s all across the Netherlands when their kids don’t want to bike to school in the rain. (Sugar dissolves in water, so it’s basically saying: you can handle a little water, you won’t melt).
