Reddit is doing better than Lemmy. Have you seen Lemmy statistics lately? 📉

Edit: Lemmy users mad about facts.

I’d much rather have a smaller functioning social media than a larger, mainstream one that gets sucked dry for everything it’s worth for capitalist gain

      Growth is not everything

A downwards tendency immediately after such a huge peak was to be expected, since retention will be never 100%. Some people arrive when they’re overexcited, the “fire” inside them burns out, and then they leave for somewhere else. As such I wouldn’t say that Lemmy is doing so bad.

And for Reddit, the very fact that this exodus happened - even if temporary - is already a sign that Reddit isn’t doing so well. It means that some people actively fought against their inertia to avoid the platform, even if it’s large and already well established.

Another factor to consider is who left Reddit. The APIcalypse and “landed gentry lol” fiasco didn’t affect all cohorts of the userbase the same way.

I like Lemmy; especially with a nice app or frontend (personally use voyager, and gives me that Apollo feel).

But, I don’t consider Lemmy to be as enjoyable as Reddit was (It’s enjoyable, but for shorter durations). Both have their pros and cons, but Lemmy doesn’t have near the same level of user base, and I tend to see the same posts over and over, even if I reload 12 hours later.

Could be an activity problem, could be an algorithm problem, but it is honestly something that will get better over time.

Lemmy does have plenty of pluses though, depending on your instances moderation. It typically has a more pleasant community; and I’m looking forward to updates to for users to block/filter whole servers. Unlike Reddit, at least Lemmy is getting better over time.

Well yeah, Linux is perfect and any issues you have are because you’re a fucking idiot and should just go back to windows.

That’s mostly true, the problem is not Linux. It’s Windows power users that get butthurt when they realize they are not computer experts but merely Windows power users and get salty and they blame Linux. Like the guy above… literally the problem he is having has nothing to do with Linux. The fact is Linux is great for average users and it’s great for advanced users. The only people that have problems with it are Windows power users… or what I like to refer to as the LTT gamer bros.

              So then what’s the issue?

Steam downloads at 1900Mbps on Windows.

Steam downloads at 120Mbps on Linux.

Sounds like a Linux problem. Cope harder, though.

It’s a Steam problem if it only happens in Steam. The only person that is coping is you because you can’t solve a problem that is easily fixable so you cry about Linux when the real deficit is between your ears.

Okay, then tell me how to fix it. You say it’s easily fixable, tell me.

Or do what everyone else does, tell me how I’m stupid, the problem is me, and then refuse to help fix this “easily fixable” issue. It’s because you don’t know how to fix it, but you can’t admit Linux is broken.

And the fact you think it’s okay to call someone a moron because in their experience Windows works better, is insane.

Your personal experience doesn’t matter when people that have much more experience than you and actually understand the differences tell you.

You’re just too stupid to know, Dunning-Kruger effect here.

I can give plenty of examples of things working better in Linux that don’t work or run like shit in Windows. Your one little example is literally meaningless.

You’re telling me that my experience means nothing because other people aren’t having the issue?

Steam on Linux has been broken for a decade and there’s no concrete fix. Sorry your OS is garbage.

The fact all of the Linux nerds who defend Linux and tell me how great it is can’t even tell me how to fix it. I thought Linux was so awesome, just worked, and you have full control over it? So then, smarty pants, tell me how to fix this issue that has been an issue for over a decade. I’ll wait.

Meanwhile I’ll keep downloading games on Windows at 1900Mbps.

Again, doesn’t matter if others have had the problem, because there is a way to fix it and plenty of distros ship with it fixed out of the box. Just because you picked a distro that has the problem, and you are too dumb to fix it doesn’t mean linux is broken. Having a choice in distros and packages is a fundamental principle of linux and that sets it apart from Windows where users have no choices.

How about in Windows when I plug my gopro into it and double click on a video file that it takes 10 seconds before it will start playing? In linux it starts playing instantly. Have you ever tried to run docker services in Windows? It’s an absolute shitshow, but in linux it works flawlessly. See? I can give plenty examples of things working like shit in Windows that work perfectly in Linux. You actually are just an idiot, with no experience, and no idea how computer systems work.

What about setting custom keyboard shortcuts? Can’t do it in Windows to the extent of Linux. What about fully customizing your desktop environment? Can’t do it in Windows. But you think Windows just works? Nah bro, Windows doesn’t work at all in my opinion when you can’t do basic things like control and customize it. You have different priorities, you think “just working” means your shitty ass games run. I think just working means I have full control and customization and ownership over my box so I don’t have to put up with ass desktop environment and ads and telemetry data.

So just keep trying to cope with the fact that you’re an idiot and you need to used a dumbed down OS that sends off telemetry data and forces ads on you. It’s okay. You’re a dumb dumb and are willing to put up with the shitshow of Windows. It’s okay if you cope by shitting on the superior OS, but it just makes you look like an idiot at the end of the day.

Ubuntu, Fedora, and Manjaro have it broken out of the box. Please, tell me which Distro has it fixed out of the box? I would love to try and prove you wrong.

Also you’re literally proving my point. Linux doesn’t “just work” when you need to figure out how to fix it.

How about in Windows when I plug my gopro into it and double click on a video file that it takes 10 seconds before it will start playing? In linux it starts playing instantly. GoPro files run instantly on my PC. Try not having such a potato PC? Not to mention it sounds like in both situations Windows DOES work, in my example, Steam does NOT reach full speed.

What about setting custom keyboard shortcuts? Can’t do it in Windows to the extent of Linux. What about fully customizing your desktop environment? Can’t do it in Windows.

Sounds like you need to learn what words mean. Keyboard shortcuts aren’t preventing Windows from working. Customization isn’t the same as “just working”. Windows does just work. I am not arguing with some asshole on Lemmy about Steam speeds on Windows. It just works.

So just keep trying to cope with the fact that you’re an idiot and you need to used a dumbed down OS that sends off telemetry data and forces ads on you. It’s okay. I would use Linux, but it doesn’t work, and the ‘easy fix’ doesn’t exist. Linux is the shit show. Has toxic people like you crying and coping and defending it. Sorry it sucks so bad it doesn’t even get networking, the most basic functionality in 2023, right.
