  • Really into local hosting and open LLM’s I’ve largely stepped back due to ‘fatigue’. I’ve downloaded tweaked and reshuffle models and programs then a couple months will pass and it’s lept forward again. Which is good but I figured I’d wait until it slowed a bit.

I will say the fact I can run a decent 7b and even 10b models and get decent responses and times with a 3070 is impressive. AnythingLLM has been a really handy program for me. Still in development but it’s been neat working with RAG. I also moved from textgen to LMStudio and am really liking it. I like textgen but I felt it got a bit side tracked. A lot of good suggestions in here so cheers OP.

  • CTDummy@lemm.eetoADHD@lemmy.worldWhat is this community's view on self-medicating?

I personally think self medicating should be strongly discouraged in the community. Obviously, people who are already diagnosed and are dealing with medication shortages is one thing.

People diagnosing themselves is another. I not only understand mods not allowing it but support it. Taking stimulant medication can have a variety of health implications and require monitoring; especially when determining dosage and the proper medication regime. Fostering a sentiment of “I know my body == I have a degree in medicine” shouldn’t be done here (or anywhere imo).

I’ve already seen T mentioned in comparison. Which is a class C drug (2 years in prison). Amphetamines are class B (5 years). That’s just in UK, in Aus it’s a schedule 8 substance (highly controlled drug with serious penalties for possession). Allowing a community to advocate for self medication, especially in a community where our treatment is amphetamine, is just a bad idea and would be a great way to get a real unhealthy community real quick.

  • Neither do I. I do like guessing them though, especially users whose participation online is largely toxic and quickly hostile.

There was also that study I saw posted to lemmy asserting “trolls” and cyber bullying positively correlated with negative personality traits like sadism and narcissism. So I get what you’re saying, some of them are just younger people who’ve lost their way online. Or perhaps they’ve experienced similar behaviour online so now they’re copying it (another article I read said this is a possibility). For this user, based on their post history, I don’t really see that.

Some people just enjoy engaging in that sort of behaviour or can’t help it due to their upbringing.

  • This is a pretty poor reply from a moderator. The user you’re replying to is correct. Not only that, it is staggering that someone who mods a sub of this type is advocating for self diagnosis. Sharing coping mechanisms is one thing but advocating what amounts to circumventing mental health help is frankly irresponsible. I don’t see how anyone could find it even rational to advocate to the potentially mental ill to diagnose themselves.

  • It is a commonly known issue that women avoid going on comms in games. For the simple fact that an incredible high percent of the time, doing so means being dog piled by the rest of the server. Sure plenty still do it anyway, but sometimes shockingly enough, some people want to play games to relax.

Anecdotally it feels like they’re more present in games than ever but if only a small percent participate in the hobby and that small percent constantly deals with this type of behaviour, do you think that’s going to encourage more to join?

People taking out their shitty days or personalities on others in gaming has been an issue overdue for addressing for a minute now.

  • “People are too sensitive today” types are deliberately missing the point. Online is pretty much the only place where you can get away with spouting slurs or psycho shit. You wouldn’t do it in public or get away with most of it in public.

More to the point it’s just tiring having these types come into a lobby. They generally don’t (or can’t) play properly or fuck around until someone calls them out. They then start on that person or spamming the N word.

More often than not it feels like they try to frame it as “oh ho, people can’t handle my casual use of slurs, snowflakes”. When more likely is if you’re talking and behaving like that generally it means you’re obnoxious and disruptive to the game.
