Nah, the game has plenty of flaws and design issues.
Example: defense. It’s completely different from most games that came after it and unintuitive (it works like in Diablo I). It rather works like evasion in newer games and it’s basically the defensive version of attack rating. Either it negates all physical damage or nothing. Not to be confused with chance to block. Which does the same, but with blockstun. Oh, and while running, your defense is set to zero. Which again isn’t explained anywhere (but you can check it by keeping your stats open and running). Walking is fine.
Hidden stats: so more defense is better, right? Not necessarily. First, you have the strength requirements which are visible; second, there are hidden armor classes that impact your character’s movement speed, which is why stuff like Archon Plate is so good.
So there are four resistances (fire, lightning, ice and poison). Just kidding, it’s actually six because physical and magic damage can also be modified in the same way (though that attribute is rare for players, but it exists). But they’re not shown on the resistances page, but rather under all stats if modified. This is how monsters gain their “immune to physical / magic” property.
Then the game doesn’t really explain itself most of the time. Take “Amplify Damage”. The in-game description is “Increases the amount of damage received.”. So let’s guess what it does: probably amplify the damage regardless of type and then apply resistance? You couldn’t be more wrong, it lowers physical resistance.
Talking about skills, the skill trees could use some improvements I think. I’m not a big fan of synergies because it can force you into dumping points into practically unusable skills.
Items are also a bit of a pain point. A lot of uniques are straight up unneeded because they’re only relevant when itemization doesn’t matter yet and then just fall off. Their effects are often not as unique as one would like. But this is excusable because the game pioneered a lot of this stuff.
Where it gets ugly is when none of the items matter (be it rare, set or unique) because of runewords. The biggest offenders are Enigma, Infinity, Insight, Grief and Spirit. Infinity and Insight usually go onto your mercenary, so they’re not competing with personal equipment slots. But just double Spirit is really good. Paladins, the first or second best class, can use this even earlier because they don’t need to wait for Monarchs; their exceptional shields can have four sockets, in addition to very good resistances. They stand above other classes with the sorceress. Or did until Mosaic was introduced.
Oh, and did you know that “+X% enhanced damage” behaves differently depending on whether it’s on a weapon or on another piece of equipment?
Still love the game to death. But it’s not flawless
I knew you’d point that out.
Such a flawed game. Yet such a masterpiece
I think it’s a shame Suse wasn’t built up as a German / European champion. They are Linux pioneers but as far as I know outside from smaller jobs were never really involved in bigger government projects. Big strategic mistake

Man, the *arr stack gets wilder every day
Oh my God, it’s the guy from City of the Wolves!
The alternative would be to install a jack on all devices, even in those of people who won’t use it. Not very “green” ya know.
Ifixit score 6/10 vs Fairphone 5 10/10, probably same for the new model
No focus on ethically sourced components
I don’t know why people ignore the raison d’être for the Fairphone completely when making these comparisons. You could just say “I don’t care about those aspects”, and then just ignore it completely because it will always lose in other aspects to its competitors
The Fairphone just isn’t a device with mass appeal. It will always cost more compared to phones with similar specs. The ugly truth is that only exploration of labor made phones as cheap as they are. Once you pay workers fairly, price of everything goes up.
Second, a lot of people aren’t looking for repairability. They care about having a working phone, doesn’t matter to them if the device is repaired or replaced. With repairability though come restrictions regarding design (both visual and technical) people might not agree with, further limiting the possible audience.
Personally I’m surprised they were able to lower this gen’s introduction price with how things are going; I’ll probably get one after reviews are out, replacing my Redmi Note 8 as the kernel is no longer supported. Was a good run though, almost six strong years, love the device and cost me 130 euros back then. But of course totally different focus from the Fairphone. I was in a different financial spot back then.
It’s obvious in English, but the conversation was in German (we’re both German) and the literal translation is barely used (Petrolat or Petrolatum). My point wasn’t that Vaseline is also made from petrol, but that a lot of stuff is, and Vaseline was barely the topic where the fact was dropped.
We have a former chemist working in our department and I talked to him about skin care etc and I mentioned Vaseline and said that it’s made from or is a byproduct of refining oil. He said something along the lines of “yeah, basically everything is”.
His view was probably warped, but still an interesting point
“luckily, I have 50, so this doesn’t apply to me.”
And thus, masturbation prayer was born
Okay.
LFS is a distro in the sense that a cookbook is a buffet
First mistake was to not specify a sheet size
Just make him tanky and put an Insight into it, it’s a Polearm weapon, bam, useful
Yeah, this one is on Kent… again.
He posted on Patreon that there’ll be a DKMS module. In my opinion, this should have been the option from the very beginning and upstreaming at a later point in time. It would have avoided a lot of drama. And now bcachefs is kind of tainted. The only way I ever see it back in mainline is there is an independent downstream of Kent’s kernel that has no connection to him whatsoever.
Shame because I had very good experience with the filesystem. Definitely better than when btrfs was new. But Linus is unfortunately right; Kent is unable to follow agreed collaboration rules.
Unfortunate situation that could have been avoided entirely. Though I don’t want to be too harsh on Kent. He spent a lot of time and work on bcachefs and it’s his most important project. As such, he’s more passionate about all of this. But the same can be said for Linus and the kernel on the other side.
