Whatever the fuck podcast popularized the idea that blue just didn’t exist? Yeah stupid.
I do believe there is some relationship between one’s main language and how it affects thought patterns, but I mean cmon, even if I don’t know every word for shades of green (avocado VS chartreuse) doesn’t mean I’m not capable of distinguishing them. I may not have an exacting language tool set for distinguishing them. But I could.
Go place a plaque that says “Mustafa Ataturk” and watch people’s heads expose that he was actually a very small cat and not a normal sized human.
Apparently it’s on a 12 foot antenna. That’s crazy. I thought for sure they’d be communicating on a much larger dish.
I’d wager the data rate is pretty low, to increase the fidelity.
since November 2023, when a computer malfunction on board the spacecraft caused it to return garbled data.
Upsigh down? Or upside ouwn?
I think what makes this argument true is that it’s FICTION. Even in a dystopia that is super bleak, with an ending where everyone dies, we can remain hopeful that it’s cautionary fiction.
You could make similar arguments about any other fiction or genre as well. “All dark comedies are hopeful because they show the human ability to make light of bleak and tragically ironic situations”. “All horror movies are hopeful because the fictional creature at the center of the story cannot be real”.
Usually when people say “gender is a social construct” they mean that when your 7th grade biology teacher told you there are males and females, there was more to the story.
If someone tried to tell you that you can fit everything into either the “food” bucket or the “not food” bucket, you would definitely have questions. How do we define food? Food for whom?
If you define food as something edible, with nutritional value… How much nutritional value? A stone covered in lichen probably has nutritional value and I might try to eat it if I were starving to death. Raw grains of wheat might have nutritional value but also might make me sick of I ate them whole, but we all recognize they are generally edible and are usually processed into bread.
“Food” is a useful concept in that it can usually help guide humans toward sustenance. It was never meant as some airtight philosophical concept.
Every word is created through human interaction.
Are you saying that because most people wouldn’t consider acorns and dandelions edible, or worth processing into food, that the definition of food is meaningless?
Or are you saying that yes you can technically est mud and rocks (what is salt, anyways?) that food is a meaningless concept?
You can drink your coffee from a bowl but that doesn’t make it a mug.
It’s called a “system” normally.
I have a captain crunch whistle so I hear it anytime I want to!
Give the conductor amphetamines? Shave 3-6 minutes of the time
Do many many people actually choose to litter? I mean I’m sure some people do. Drivers for example.
I feel like a lot of litter also blows out of trash cans or out of reach, or is maybe forgotten with near innocence.
The real people holding society up are those who go out and clean up.
Chef feat!! For sure.
I’ll never make it sadly.
But I dream of a game that kind of looks and feels like a Pokémon game. But you are a witch or herbalist going round the different biomes in a fantasy setting making remedies and potions like a morrowind game.
So obviously there’s be your dying grandma or mentor and some sort of evil overtaking the land. You set out of the city with your knife, shovel and glassware. There’d be a pokedex of plant and animal parts to find and fill out. Roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, then maybe also monster parts. There’d probably be a crafting tree like I’m Minecraft. Different biomes, seasons, or biome locations would inevitably have to be gated by tools or potions.
Eventually you’d discover the recipe to make the thing to defeat the BBEG and he’d probably show up to stop you from getting the last and rarest ingredient in the potion. Etc.
Would definitely need to ride the knifes edge of challenging a players knowledge and intuition about botany, as well as tropes in witchcraft and fantasy. Without being too hard, too requiring of memory and notes…
A challenge to making the game? Would need probably 5x the art in an old Zelda or Pokémon game. Talking 200+ unique foraged items, 6+ biomes with sub biome/habitats. Monsters. Townsfolk. Etc. Oh and I’d like have to learn how to code and make art. So yeah. Someone. Please make this game for me. Or tell me it exists.
Pretty easy to do in excel. Or on a napkin.
I bought my Honda Civic about 9 years ago for, let’s just say 20k including interest on the loan. I could look more into it, but let’s say $500 a year on average for service and $1000 a year on insurance. Gas has been pretty constantly $3/gal and mileage at 30 miles per gallon so that’s ten cents a mile. Driven 110,000 miles so that’s $11,000 in gasoline.
So all and all ownership has been about 20k+4.5k+9k+11k or $45,000 divided by 110,000 miles.
That’s about 40 cents a mile. Woooo! I’m probably under estimating the service costs as they have really escalated recently. The IRS says it costs 55 cents a mile to service a car. So yeah. You shouldn’t think of any short trip as free. It probably costs 50 cents to drive every mile.
Get it? Because Bernie Sanders wants the economy to work for every day people?
Probably harder on a tiger.
