Mapy is a financial supporter of OSM, which isn’t free to develop btw. So they’re not leeching of FOSS labour, they’re helping to make it possible.

Sorry but this is just bs. The only important feature that’s behind a paywall is downloading offline maps for more than one country at the same time.
And services like this have to pay for the development and upkeep costs in some way, since they’re not selling your data like Google does. There’s nothing wrong with having a paid tier.
Regular OSM doesn’t have elevation data as well as many other info that mapy does provide. And the map visualisation is much better than any competitor IMO, especially for hiking maps.
It’s by far my favourite service for hiking maps, can highly recommend! For car navigation it’s definitely behind google, but they’re making progress
I don’t really use Organic Maps, but mapy works perfect on mobile in my experience. One big difference is that Mapy mimics the look of traditional paper hiking maps, which makes it much more convenient to read. Organic Maps has more of a standard OSM look, making it less convenient when you’re using it as a hiking map.
Good to know, thanks
Check, thanks for the info!
What’s wrong with .ml?
Man, there are so many websites for European alternatives now, I’m losing track. Someone should make a site for that lol.
What are y’all favourite European alternatives sites?
If you’re on iOS I can highly recommend Mlem
Does anyone know if the writing is any better than It Takes Two? My gf and I loved the gameplay in that game but the writing was just awful.
Qwant and Ecosia are also developing a fully European search index together. The first versions are expected to be available this summer.
Let me explain it with a theoretical example: you are a company and the field you’re hiring in consists of 90 women and 10 men. You need 10 people for the job and want the most capable. Statistically that would mean hiring 9 women and 1 man on average, giving you the 10% most capable employees. But since you want equality you want it 50/50, so you hire 5 women and 5 men. That means that for the women you hired the 5,6% most capable employees, but for the men you hire the 50% most capable employees. So you get less capable employees this way, assuming both groups are equally likely to be capable.
I disagree, there are definitely extreme forms of DEI, namely when we’re talking about forced equal representation. Pools of potential employees are rarely perfect representations of society, for many different reasons. So if a company forcefully tries to have a perfect representation of society, that means they will discriminate against certain groups and hire less capable workers on average.
This looks great! Those are some very welcome improvements, thank you for your work
TLDR: out of all of these the only real european companies are:
And makita from Japan and one of the only independent manufacturers left, as well as Fein and Hilti.
Cool, I’ll give it a listen!
And its the first major movie completely made in Blender! An amazing free and open-source 3D modelling program from the Netherlands
No, OSM is free for everyone, doesn’t matter if you make profit off of it or not, so they don’t have to pay for anything. They’re choosing to support OSM to help it improve (which is also in their own benefit).
