After reading, it should be noted that this isn’t Steam’s native 2fa (the weirdly non-standard one “steam guard”). It is text and email based. More reason to use the TOTP way for… everything.

This sounds like a convoluted and worse version of stuff that already exists. Also you can’t have something open source but deny commercial use.

If we are talking about the most promising stuff, I will mention gnunet is basically replacing the entire internet using all the existing hardware. I think that is the end goal, but short term yeah, i2p and others are a great next step.
