  • Yeah and it goes both ways. She can post her crap, and haters can hate. She can ignore them and they choose not to ignore her. That’s where the conflict comes in.

The whole DMCA thing only made it worse. She exposed herself as a target for hatred and the haters love nothing more than for the enemy to expose their glowing weak point to shoot at.

But that’s because if we want copyright and parody to coexist, they need to have limits. Parody gets a blanket license to reuse source material endlessly unless you can justify the expense of an attorney to hit a moving target that may be made from hundreds of individuals mocking your content. That’s kind of shitty and almost impossible to defend against. It’s like how you can’t copyright a tweet because it is too short. But you should be able to copyright a body of tweets because aggregated they are (checks notes) not too short. In her case the bonehurtingjuice community turned into an active troll campaign to target every one of her comics to harass and demean her.

So in this case I do think the internet trolls on bhj were shitheads and were in the wrong. Even if that coexists with my opinion that her comics kind of suck. And frankly I think the current legal system is at fault for not having adapted to coordinated trolling. She’s probably going to get killed by one of those gamergate nutjobs now that she’s been doxxed.

  • Uhg. All of the commercial real estate in the US is mortgaged and the owners just roll it over continuously - allowing the banks to set policy in contract to not reduce the $/sqft of commercial real estate. So everything here is just empty and the owners can write off the empty stores as losses on their taxes to offset the taxes from their profits.

There are so many things that can be done to fix the US but they chose to triple-down on the approaches that broke everything. Sigh. I’m really happy to hear Japan figured out the right balance. It’d be amazing if those best practices could be imported but I’m sure they’ll start tarriffing ideas soon too.

  • I’m in the same camp. Just because I can recognize the evils that I am a beneficiary of doesn’t mean I necessarily want them to continue. But there are better ways to dismantle an empire. At this point, I’m expecting civil war (Rwanda style) followed by a foreign invasion (likely China) while we’re in pieces.

  • The idea that the US was getting a bad deal is just fucking laughable though. The reality is we have had 70 years of neoliberalism forcing the entire world to do what we want because our economic and military might had our boot to their throat.

Oh but we had a bad deal. -Trump

No, NOW we have a bad deal. Fucking dipshit ruined a soft empire where we subjugated the entire god damn planet in order to… make the beneficiaries of that subjugation work harder? We had already won! All we had to do was maintain the petrodollar and fuck over China’s ability to form relations with the first world. But now we lost.

  • In January I moved all my 401k funds to a vangaurd stable fund which mostly invested in money markets. My 401k is somehow up from April 1st by a few %. Thinking of reallocating to take advantage of Trump’s inevitable reversal.

My guess is he will do it piecemeal as countries cave to his attempt at soliciting bribes. So the market as a whole wont recover all at once. When I see he is starting to reverse individual tariffs, that’s when I’ll do the reallocation. But until then I think there is more to lose.

Also I shorted Elmo and cashed out high enough to cover the losses on the rest of my portfolio. So somehow I didn’t get turbofucked by them this time.
