  • I’m pretty firmly against crossovers unless they are particularly compatible with each other. Unless it gels just right it feels pandering and lame. Smash Bros for example worked hard to make the disparate cast fit in with each other with subtle design changes. Ready Player One on the other hand…

X-Men and other super hero-esque media works. DC and Mortal Kombat works when you throw in magic to offset the power inbalance. (Although, I never questioned Marvel Vs Capcom’s power scaling. Hsien-Ko and Phoenix Wright casually kicking Thanos’ wrinkled purple ass never made me think twice.)

I’ld like Capcom to collapse more of their fighting and beat-em-up properties into Street Fighter. Hsien-Ko makes about as much sense in Street Fighter as half of the villains.

IIRC, it’s more that they over time figure out what sounds and actions get their owner’s attention. We respond better, unconsiously or otherwise when they meow at us.

My old cat figured out, before I did, that if she knocks shit off the coffee table I get up and check if her bowl is empty.

Generally wild/feral adult cats are more or less mute outside of anger/mating/territory calls, but domesticated cats keep their kitten vocalizations if we respond to them.

My current cat is very vocal and we responded playfully to his meowing as he grew up.

Edit: Here’s a scientific american blog/article about it. I don’t think it’s something we have confirmation on, just a good hunch.

  • My favorite is (IIRC) Charlotte on the phone with Jonathan, she offhandidly tells Angelica “I love you.” and you hear Jonathan say “What?!” on the other line.

“Oh Jonathan, I was talking to Angelica, I don’t tell my employees I love them (walking out of scene) atleast not after Anita Hill

I don’t 100% remember if it was Anita Hill, but she namedroped a sexual harassment case. On Rugrats.

(What happened to Hill wasn’t funny, but the set-up and shock of the joke was well done)

  • My buddy got himself a cat a few years ago. (She adopted him)

I would tease him about becoming a cat person. “I will never become a ‘cat guy’, I’m not going to spoil her. She’s just a barn cat to keep the mice out”

The barn in question was the Mother-in-law house at his folks that he was staying in.

After a few months of us cat owners teasing him, I asked him point blank “have you ever slept in an uncomfortable position as to not disturb your cat?”

After a good half minute pause we got a “err, I mean yeah, I don’t want to disturb her if she’s asleep!”

He became a total cat dad until the day he moved into a dog house and left her with his folks. He still dotes on her when he comes home to visit.
