Just because things were worse in the past and marginally better now doesn’t detract from the shittiness of today. And there are quite a few people trying to reimplement the policies of that time period.
Things being worse before is not justification for not progressing to something better.
We do. I’ve got friends who are harassed because of who they are, or what they look like. I’ve had friends almost die because of police kneeling their neck because he defended family from an abuser, friends who’ve been threatened and nearly attacked by homophobes and transphobes, I’ve experienced cops do everything they can to escalate situations to justify violence.
So yeah we really do live in a dystopian era where basic rights and securities are not afforded to the people who need it most.
Yeah I do help locally, I’m lucky enough that I have the means and ability to help others. But that still doesn’t change the fact that people can’t just cope and hope their way out of food insecurity. Plain and simple, every single one of us needs food, our bodies and minds will go through great lengths driving us to find food, we literally cannot turn off the neural pathways that tell us we’re hungry and that we need to eat. You can’t “positive thinking” your way put of an empty stomach while your body breaks itself down for energy.
Bold of you to assume I just sit on lemmy all day posting memes. Actually join in a bunch of volunteer service events throughout the year, some through work, other times personally. I also encourage others the vote for candidates who are more likely to bring about positive changes for our society.
So, yes I am being empathetic, and that empathy does actually drive me to take the steps I can take to make other people’s lives better. But at the end of the day, all of this work can very quickly be for naught unless we simultaneously fix the overarching systems in place that led to the unnecessary problems people suffer.
God it must be blissful to live without any kind of empathy towards the struggles others go through.
Food insecurity is something outside of most people’s control, last I checked, humans can only cope without food for about a week before death sets in.
And there you have the conspiracy theory. Now all we need is to somehow tie it back to The Jews™

I always figured it was because metal is harder than rock.
Both can be true. Teachers can be doing everything they humanly can with the constraints and budgets they’re given by the people in charge, whether it is public or private schools. They’re still people who need food, water, shelter and clothing, and so many teachers pay for the supplies they need with their own money, cutting into their ability to afford basic necessities.
Having more money available to pay for teacher’s aides, and for the necessary supplies would remove a lot of the burden and barriers teachers face when actually teaching.
Reddit has always been one of the most useful sources of information for a very long time. Hell the only sources I could get information for troubleshooting the PC upgrades I’m going through are from Reddit.
And that’s basically all Reddit is for me now, the end result of a Google search looking for specific information.
I’m also from the US. But yeah it makes sense the shows would have been on ABC considering disney owns it. I never really watched that channel, I was more into Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon growing up but I definitely do remember watching Toon Disney every so often where they put all of their older shows.

There were a lot of Disney movies that got TV shows, they basically just shoved them all onto a less known Disney animated shows channel instead of tje main Disney Channel.
That idea is also a very common thing in Ayn Rand’s writing too, which he’s said he was quite influenced by her writing in an interview in the mid 70s.
Maybe like an indie game publishing coop sort of thing. Sort of like what Nebula does where the content creators also have ownership in the company.
Ugh I hate these arguments about giving bad actors easier access. Bad actors are going to figure out flaws and security holes whether it’s open source or not. Security through obfuscation is a temporary measure and having more eyes on the source means more chances for good actors to find flaws and publicize them for fixes.
