  • Good cheddar is expensive. I suspect this graph is very generous in what it considers cheddar.

Globally, the style and quality of cheeses labelled as cheddar varies greatly, with some processed cheeses packaged as “cheddar”.¹

Processed cheese typically contains around 50–60% cheese and 40–50% other ingredients.²

It:'s also fundamentally a bit weird to compare the prices of these cheeses, as cheese prices tend to be extremely local in nature. What’s a fancy foreign cheese in one place is just traditional food in another. And of course, price and quality varies a lot within each cheese. A lot of what is sold as mozzarella is also not recognizable as such in my opinion.

  • Fresh cheese, such as mozzarella and ricotta, is quicker to make, and a lot less concentrated. It doesn’t need ageing, and there’s a lot less milk going into a kilo of cheese. It’s also less work.

On the flip side, they don’t last as long. If you want to get fresh ricotta and you live far away from where it’s produced it might cost you a fortune, as it cannot be stored in the cheese shop as long as a wheel of aged cheese.

  • I’m generally pretty happy with the results in Qwant.

The main thing I miss at this point is really support for !bangs. I use them all the time in DuckDuckGo, to search directly in !scholar or !wiki. Especially in Qwant there are some features missing, so if I for example want to be lazy and use the search bar as a calculator it would be nice to be able to search for !ddg 2+2.

But that’s a minor criticism. For the most part it’s a great tool, and I look forward to where they go with their own indexes.

Edit: Also, what’s up with this graphic suggesting search engines (if you can call them that) as alternatives to Google Chrome.

More or less the entirety of western society failed in not sanctioning Russia profoundly in 2014, and we are now paying the cost. No doubt. But I wouldn’t exaggerate Jolla’s role - going through a bankruptcy to shake investors off seems to me to be dedication, even if it might be a bit late.

Canonical gave up on Ubuntu Touch, but being open source some Norwegian guy decided to continue developing it anyway. Others joined in, leading to the ubports foundation. Canonical let them continue to use the name Ubuntu Touch and there is some continued cooperation, but Ubuntu Touch is completely independent from Canonical these days.
