Thumbs up from me too. I’m always eager to hear/read from people who aren’t shy but rather open and reasonable about their beliefs, whatever those may be.
Not a fan. Borderlands 3 made it happen.
Every once in a very long while a miracle can happen, like when some people called out drinking so much milk daily couldn’t be good.
I’ll just add that I’ve had absolutely no benefit, just time wasted, when using the most popular services such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot. Yes, sometimes it gets a few things right, mostly things that are REALLY easy and quick to find even when using a more limited search engine such as Mojeek. Most of the time these services will either spit out blatant lies or outdated info. That’s one side of the issue with these services, and I won’t even get into misinformation injected by their companies. The other main issue I find for research is that you can’t get a broader, let alone precise picture about anything without searching for information yourself, filtering the sources yourself and learning and building better criteria yourself, through trial and error. Oftentimes it’s good info that you weren’t initially searching for what makes your time well spent and it’s always better to have 10 people contrast information they’ve gathered from websites and libraries based on their preferences and concerns than 10 people doing the same thing with information they were served by an AI with minimal input and even less oversight. Better to train a light LLM model (or setup any other kind of automation that performs even better) with custom parameters at your home or office to do very specific tasks that are truly useful, reliable and time saving than trusting and feeding sloppy machines from sloppy companies.
Has anyone here read/played Metro 2033 and beyond?
Gen AI should be an optional tool to help us improve our work and life, not an unavoidable subscription service that makes it all worse and makes us dumber in the process.
The entire world needs European services at this point.
Was about to comment that. I’m never trusting dual boot with Windows installed.
He does have the looks, huh? Too many people lately prefer to believe whatever requires the least effort from them. It goes something like: “Hey, that person’s being openly sexist!” - “Hold on, they can’t be sexist. Their mother is a woman!” - “Oh, thank heavens! For a moment there I was about to get really mad at them. I could’ve done something awful like blocking them on social media!”
Sad to see a nazi getting his pictures shared here (not Linus, obviously). 😔
Worse. He’s a nazi scumbag that poses as a neurodivergent victim in need of therapy and tolerance whenever his hate speech backfires. He’s also been caught redhanded using fake accounts to hound and harass people he dislikes. He’s not related to tech in any way and isn’t an expert in any field. Just your average toxic streamer making as much noise as he can.
What a pleasant surprise to find posts like yours around here! It seems we’ve shared some headaches too. Will surely stick around!
Supporting DRM-free games is key either way, but being fair there’s A LOT of work to be done to make it more accessible. GOG’s installers for instance are not better than compressing a game’s files yourself. Certainly hope they’re working on better installers. If it was in my hand I’d have them employ someone who makes game repacks. Anyway, I’ll take a peek and push for Steam to tag games as DRM-free when they are.
And Steam. You just have to be picky. Even GOG sometimes lets a game with it’s own DRM slip. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Big_List_of_DRM-Free_Games_on_Steam
Had a gamedev from a respected studio tell me that same rumour about Steam pushing exclusivities. All it takes is a little digging to find out that’s false. Some people were upset when Steam was installed with Valve’s own games as a launcher, and later more and more devs launched their games on Steam as a store because they wanted to. The alternative, Games For Windows Live, was lame and unstable. It was just the a smart choice for those that didn’t want to make their own launcher. Also, don’t feed that other troll who’s been posting nonsense everywhere. 🤣 And yeah, even if some good came from milking tons of cash from spoiled kids (I was glad for Oddworld Inhabitants to name one), as a consumer it’s best to just delete your EGS account. If you got a game there for free that you wish to keep just copy its files elsewhere ASAP before deleting your account. Epic Games is known to have randomly deleted games from accounts because of server issues and their customer support will reject complaints about this by default, so getting attached to it’s library is not a good idea.
Oh! One more thing. Epic Online Services. If it’s optional in a game just disable it. You’ll have less connection issues and in some games you just won’t be able to play online at all if you don’t disable that crap. Same goes for Epic’s Easy Anti-Cheat, some mods let you disable that in a few games and doing so fixes some stutters it causes (night and day difference in Elden Ring). You’re welcome. 🫶
The point, I believe, wasn’t about spam but likely got derailed. It was probably about the phone number requirement being unnecessary. I’ll just add that even if it is, it’s a measure geared towards common users that often need to recover access to their accounts through means they’re already familiar with, as is a verification SMS. It’s not the safest nor the most private, but it’s easier to deal with for most people. Whoever wants something that doesn’t depend on a SIM or eSIM should try Briar and SimpleX. None of these will be a perfect solution for every single person though.
I’m reading posts as yours thankful to still find some people with common sense. I lost friends to covid while others kept ranting about nonsensical conspiracy theories and proudly rebelling. One of the dumbest shit I’ve heard people say is “Why should I wear a mask for covid if I don’t wear one for flu?”. Well, if you actually gave a damn about anyone’s wellbeing you’d wear a mask for BOTH.
