I second immich
I third Immich
I second immich
I third Immich
I put that shit on everything
Yeah I bet you could do this with a couple SBCs
Edit: and speakers, ofc
Debian 12
It’s just so good
The simplest way, if you want high quality:
Get a VPN (preferably one with port forwarding, like AirVPN)
Get qBittorrent and set the listening port to that forwarded port from your VPN host
Use the built-in search in qBit to find the stuff you want to watch
Open it in VLC
I got a little server from them a few weeks ago for $17/yr ($1.42/mo) and it’s great. 1 core, 2 GB RAM, 35 GB storage.
I used rclone to mount a Backblaze bucket and transferred a couple services to it, including Immich.
I like Backblaze mostly for their business practices. The Backblaze devs answer questions on forums sometimes (Reddit link btw). The costs are pretty good, but there are cheaper options. $6/TB plus some API transactions. I paid almost a dollar last month for a couple hundred GB of data and transactions.
Ventoy can do windows installations as well
The 3 2 1 rule is always the gold standard.
I’d recommend at least adding an offsite backup. Set up rclone with a mounted folder (client side encryption is recommended) and sync the files to that as well.
I use Backblaze for about $6/TB/mo, pro-rated for whatever amount is actually used.
I absolutely despise the idea of “hidden” files. I don’t understand the purpose of not showing them.
I think Immich has grown out of the most difficult upgrades now. Most changes now are just removing lines from the stack.
I love this app.
a good starter distro but ideally you should make your own from scratch so you know what’s in it
It’s mostly about the timing that is infuriating people. Fallout regained popularity with the TV show and they dropped a mod breaking release days later. Now they keep updating it with shit nobody asked for and breaking mods.

Why all the emojis? Why can’t people just write an article?
It wasn’t required at the time. It was listed as optional.
I highly recommend using Docker/Podman, even though you say you don’t want to. It is trivial to start up a new service using docker-compose once you get the basics down.
host:container when specifying ports or directories in the compose YAML (e.g. 58333:8080 will route the container’s port 8080 to the host machine’s port 58333.
As others have said - Live USB.
Set up a USB stick with Ventoy and you can throw a bunch of distros on there so you can trial all of them without needing to flash a new USB.
Just put the ISOs on the Ventoy flash drive and boot into Ventoy.
