  • People complain about the algorithms on other social media but you can see here exactly why they have them.

Without them it becomes hard to get connected to things that interest you.

For Lemmy I’ve managed to build a decent feed by browsing all and subscribing to communities I like.

You just have to do the algorithms job now.

As for the big communities it’s exactly what happened to the old internet. It used to be a large collection of individual sites but discovery was hard. So the front pages of the internet started popping up.

I expect the same thing will happen to the fediverse eventually. It’s just a better user experience sadly.

  • My friend joined a very cult-like Christian church.

One of those ones where they pray and people start shaking and shit.

I went to his wedding, it was fucking surreal haha

But every single one of their members had serious problems with alcohol or drugs. Including my friend.

Now it’s great they help their members quit but they very clearly take advantage of people at rock bottom to convert them.

  • I have type 1 diabetes and on bad days really struggle with brain fog.

Make sure you have all your tasks written down and organised, ideally in some form of project management software.

Things get easier the more programming you do. Once you’ve called a method for the 10,000s time you won’t need to think about it.

I find ChatGPT is really good for reminding you of syntax and things like that. No matter how many times I do it I can’t remember the ordering in a c# switch expression so I just ask for the syntax.

  • This actually a real phenomenon.

However, gravity isn’t the same everywhere on Earth. Gravity is slightly stronger over places with more mass underground than over places with less mass. NASA uses two spacecraft to measure these variations in Earth’s gravity. These spacecraft are part of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission.

But it’s practically unnoticeable on earth in real terms.

So there could be some sort of super dense mineral in some places. Or basically hollow earth in others.

This isn’t realistic really but you said it doesn’t need to be 100%
