If you got a Nvidia dGPU I recommend PopOS. It gave me the best energy options and ability to switch between iGPU and dGPU out of the box. It even found new firmware for my T480 and installed it without a hitch.
Thanks for the recommendation. Will take a look and see if the extra money is worth it.
Not specific for learning, but you can put any command into ExplainShell and it breaks down the individual parts for you.
Logseq + Syncthing for Linux and Android
I used this Guide (KVM +qemu) in a previous installation. I’m an intermediate Linux user and got it working without much trouble. Maybe it will fit your use case
HDR? Ah, you mean when videos keep flickering on Wayland!
I will switch when I need a new GPU.
When knowledge is deliberately gated by large entities and the author would give it away for free (scientific papers) is a no-brainer for me. Or when a course requires specific textbooks that costs hundreds of dollars.
How was there never a legal battle between KDE and Mortal Kombat?
I hop between invidious, piped and Freetube regularly. Had some instances when both piped and invidious don’t work at all.
I use Auto CPU Freq on my T480 and am satisfied so far.
I’m looking into Proton, Windscribe and AirVPN atm. Travelling the high seas is my main reason for a VPN. In the past I didn’t use it enough to switch from Mullvad, which I liked except for their port forwarding switch.
Thanks for the hint.
Yeah, I was getting desperate 😆
I try Wayland from time to time, but my 4k60Hz TV (HDMI) keeps having problems.
Under Wayland I only get 30Hz and sometimes it makes the system very laggy.
T480. Still good availability. It was popular with companies that put them back into th e market a few years ago.
Last model without glued RAM. So it’s upgradable and you can install two M.2 drives. One with 2240 length and a full-size 2280 in the main drive bay.
The battery setup is great as well. One internal battery plus an external you can choose depending on your needs. Either small and light for a bit more juice or big and heavy for max runtime.
I got one 6 months ago and couldn’t be happier.
545.29.06 I had the problems for quite some time with different driver versions
I’m enjoying Orchis right now. Kora Icons have been my fav for a while and haven’t been replaced yet.
Neat little guide (Arch, systemd) to set up automatic snapshots when you run a pacman/yay update and the option to chose snapshots in grub during startup. Really useful.
I really like the books, but the names are so generic. I have to look up the order every time I read them.
You could check out c/datahoarder. They should be able to tell you about brands, reliability, best practices …
