  • The first comment worked as bait, but that last question is way too obvious.

    Although just for fun:

Then Python is not a scripting language.

That is true. It is often used as one, but it was developed from the start as a general-purpose language.

Would you consider C to be more or less complicated than Perl?

You know about Python, Perl and C. You know the answer and you’re just trying to incense people.

Do you know what community you’re in? Do you want to start a war?

There is no clear definition because there is a lot of overlap, especially when you get into the details, but:

    • Scripting languages are often considered to be very high level and can commonly run without compilation. Making them great to automate tasks or create a simplified interaction/abstraction layer to a more complex program.

    • Programming languages usually have much lower level access, and by extension they tend to be more complicated. In exchange for that, you get much more control. Although the access varies from Assembly to languages a C programmer would consider “scripting”.

Although for every example, there is basically a counter example. Because programmers being who they are, see it as a challenge to do something with a language that others consider impossible or wrong.

For example, there are things like NodeOS, a “Lightweight operating system using Node.js as userspace.”

For anyone curious, it’s the “DISC assesment”, partly developed by William Moulton Marston. The guy behind the polygraph and Wonder Woman.

It’s based on his obsession with bondage and how he thought it was the solution to a “peaceful human society”:

Dominance: active use of force to overcome resistance in the environment

Inducement: use of charm in order to deal with obstacles

Submission: warm and voluntary acceptance of the need to fulfill a request

Compliance: fearful adjustment to a superior force.

It’s kind of difficult to relax and enjoy something when it is a seagull going IIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIII for 10min straight without a single pause, just outside your bedroom window, at 5am.

  • I was initially put off by the character graphics and combat system, but yes it is a good story game. Other people have explained the good parts, so here are some of my personal complaints:

    • There are some really dragged out cinematics. It seems like they tried to fit some of them to the music, but didn’t have anything more to animate, so sometimes it’s really long lingering or circling shots.

    • After certain quests, you end up “having” to spend a long time checking in on companions. And depending on your order of quests, this can happen several times in a row. So it can take out of the quest-flow a little.

    • There’s basically no map. There is an “overworld” map that is very crude and basically just shows “land, sea and major points of interest”. Theres nothing when you’re in a point of interest. So some areas can be frustrating to navigate, even when they’re not supposed to be.

    • There are parts where characters seemingly make odd or rushed decisions and act as if you should know why already. Almost as if some parts were cut and they forgot to compensate in all related sections.

Personally I’m still not a big fan of the combat, and play mostly for the story. So I’m on story-mode difficulty with mods that increase resource drops and dodge window(it does not deactivate achievements).
