I have a trauma-based personality disorder, which sometimes manifests itself in episodes of often uncontrollable bouts of verbal violence. I prefer to direct this to people on the internet (as opposed to actual people), as I don’t wish to be violent towards people I actually care about.

  • Yeah, that (the video hosting) is why I’m still using it. I started using Youtube in high school at the latest, so around 20 years ago (Youtube was launched in -05 so it couldn’t be earlier) and it’s the only one from those days I still use. But because everything tries to be a social media, and because of Alphabet’s rampant capitalism and the continued enshittification of everything it lies its grubby, fat, little fingers (kinda like DJT’s in a way), it has those disgusting aspects of social media forced on its users.

btw have you encountered the forced AI voice translation of videos yet? if there is one part of modern internet that I hate and absolutely despise the most, that causes more rashes than ads and more epileptic fits than all of the AI slop you can force down my throat, is when the internet is in my own language when it shouldn’t be and I have never asked it to be. if I’d want to watch shit in my own language I’d fucking search for shit in my own language, and there is a reason I never do (because it’s shit and cringe as fuck). if you’re gonna offer this service to the unwashed masses, at least let them op out. But no, it’s always on by default, and the video creator has to turn it off.

  • I don’t know which I hate the most, but since I don’t use any Meta products (finally dropped Whatsapp too last March), or Twitter (which I dropped after they made BetterTweetDeck unusable even before Felon took over), or Reddit (got banned from r/worldnews, r/asmongold among others), or Snapchat (which went along with insta and Threads earlier), so basically the only social media I actively use is… Youtube? And I hate all the social media aspects in there that I cannot evade. So I guess Youtube’s social media AI slop is the one I tolerate the most.

  • Fair enough. I’m mostly arguing with a strawman here, composed of all the content online about how supposedly great this place is, the most egregious being those fucking happiness indexes or whatever. By what I can tell by living here all my life is that the state sucks (as in nothing fucking works like it’s supposed to), the location sucks (cold and/or dark most of the time), and all the people are drunks, depressed and thus hypermedicated, drug addicts, or inbred, xenophobic, racist homophobes. Or depending on how far from the nearest train station you stray a combination of all!

Welcome to Finland, I hate it here.

  • Nah, because if you’re silent the wrong way (and no one will ever tell you what that way is or how to be silent correctly) you’ll be ostracized since pre-school and end up socially withdraw whether you want it or not. Or at least that is my experience growing up here as an autist, as well as every other autistic person I know.

Stop romanticizing this place and its laughable excuse for a culture. Most people hate it here, and would much rather live somewhere else were it not for the fact that everywhere else seems to be even fucking worse.

  • Preach. I don’t regret the whole “diving into Arch” part, but I feel like I spent a lot of hours doing things that were pointless, nonsensical even. But then again I’ve spent most of these years since I started this journey struggling with and rehabilitating from various mental health problems (correlation=causation???) so I haven’t had much anything better to do than pointless and nonsensical things, on and off the computer.

Just make sure you’re not fiddling with partitions and boot loaders during work hours…

Ain’t that the truth. Just recently I had invited my friend over for a coffee and such, and when he came I noticed my computer wouldn’t want to boot because I had fiddled with something too critical. Sorted it out eventually, but I feel like it kinda crumbled the foundation of my whole “Linux is superior to Windows in every way” line of thinking I have been trying to bring to life among my friends…

  • Indeed, well explained. Though I think I should mention that I’ve been using Linux in general for some 12-13 years, since from somewhere around Ubuntu 12.04 to 13.10. I did make the error of overestimating my own skills and abilities regarding “figuring it out” when I dove headfirst into Arch, so basically I was a self-proclaimed massive nerd, but I didn’t even realize how inflated my own ego was. I don’t think the archinstall script/library even existed back then, and I also had no clue about the man-pages, or how anything really worked.

So my comment here was more along the lines of embellished musings on my own past experiences trying to learn things while I was doing them. Through these experiences what I have learned though is that the Arch Wiki is an invaluable source for most Linux users.

  • “Anyway, here are terminal commands you don’t understand.” and after asking for clarification on said terminal commands, you are quite rudely told to read The Manual - which seems to be some kind of a holy book for these bizarre creatures - without explaining in any way whatsoever which part of which manual you should be “reading”. Thankfully, only every command ever created by anyone since the very conception of these systems - which was some 50 years ago in the seventies, in a university of a country you don’t live in, written in a language you don’t possibly even understand all that well, possibly by someone who also didn’t know the language all that well - is discussed at length and in an impenetrably obtuse manner by many different parts of many different manuals, with helpful references to other commands and concepts you also don’t understand, but which are all varying levels of essential knowledge for understanding some of these commands, while different levels for others. Also if you do not grasp the essential knowledge, you might completely fuck up your system. It seems that the philosophy in playing Dwarf Fortress is found in trying to use certain types of Linux distros, mostly frequented by massive nerds with hugely inflated egos: losing is fun! Because why else would I still be using Arch (btw)? But in any case: Read the Fucking Manual (rtfm to you as well, brother)

  • Well our current president, who looks like a reptilian zombie with a human skin oddly draped over him, campaigned with the thought of “allowing NATO nuclear weapons on our soil”, and if it weren’t for the fact that he has been, was, is, and will forever be a capitalist right-wing populist of the worst kind, that might’ve been the final straw for not voting for him.

Others still “serving” our great nation include the speaker of the parliament, who is a straight up far-righter; a racist and a fascist. He used to be the leader of our far-right party, but after failing in the presidential elections he switched to his current position. Then there’s the leader of the far-right party, who serves as our minister of finance. She also seems like a horrible human being who deserves to get from a bullet, as she is responsible for the cuts in aid all the poor, the sick, the children, the young, the students and the immigrants, most of all who are not-as-wealthy-as-her here have faced after the last government took power.

And then there’s of course our prime minister, who is nothing but a puppet of the far-right, though he represents the same party as the president had, the right populists. An insidious kind of a fucking mitten who should die with the rest of them.

Indeed. But does it really matter who sells who which area of land, with all the people and other natural resources contained within the area, if it just leads to a future where the rich stay rich, the people (of the areas) stay poor, and the bombings never cease?

As to the question: a desolate, corporation-owned and capitalistically-ran dystopian hellscape apparently?

  • Yeah, I don’t care and never will care how good of a product some fucking capitalist techpig has created. I am that kind of a person who feels nauseous when confronted with AI-slop on the internet, like on youtube or something. Just now I uninstalled Firefox and removed my mozilla account because it seemed to me that they are going to turn completely fascist (considering how they force AI and other capitalist shit on you) any moment now.

So yeah, you’ve outed yourself as either an uninformed or misinformed useful idiot for the capitalists, or a willing bootlicker. I suggest you get up to speed on the goings-on in the world and what you should be doing in order to fight it. Like survival in the woods, how to operate high-calibre firearms, and the means to produce explosives and/or incendiaries. Or, you know, stop complying with what the capitalists tell you to accept - stuff like AI, always online DRM, internet of things…
