  • The pictures of stacks of failed clutches in r/justrolledintotheshop were enough to convince me.

    Ford had a habit of inventing new systems, but slapping them on the first couple model years of any vehicle before they seem ready.

    My dad had a first-gen Explorer Sport Trac with many notorious problems. My favorite was that both inside back door handles broke off it was like being locked in a police car back there.

    We see this a lot with skiing. I grew up working at mountains to afford it and my equipment is decent.

    Then Joey (not sure where the name originated) will bomb past you on $5000 worth of equipment and end up in traction after wiping out on the first icy patch they see.

    So the word we use is a Joey.

  • 4 of these things actually happened this year, in New England too (where Randall at least used to live).

    We had perfect clear skies for the eclipse in Maine, then a couple months later had visible Aurora on a clear night as well. All while the cicadas were around, though they weren’t very loud in my area.

    Not all on one day, but pretty lucky in a year. My 6 year old’s expectations for celestial events are set pretty high now though.

  • I’ve moved on to many paid, but not subscription apps mostly from independent shops. But I’m a designer using a Mac so your results may differ.

    • Photoshop -> Pixelmator Pro (Affinity Photo is ok too)
    • UX -> Sketch
    • Illustrator -> Affinity Designer / Sketch
    • Indesign -> … I hate when someone sends me a indesign file. I don’t do book, magazine, or catalog layouts anyway. PDFs are better and I can edit them in a bunch of apps.

    I do still use Autodesk Fusion for 3D hobby projects, but I’m planning to switch to Ondsel (FreeBSD) over the winter.
