  • The thing is, have you ever been to a coal mine. I am in the mining industry and have done multiple visits to coal mines, the magnitude of carbon they dig up, through underground or the cheaper dragline is jaw dropping if you realise that is going into the atmosphere. Like we have an exclusive club called a millionaires club for supervisors who in their section of the coal mine can extract more than a million tonnes in a year, they are greatly rewarded. This is excluding oil or petroleum products.

To counter this you need to put the same or more carbon back into the ground, what technology do we have that can do it economically or even scalable, carbon capture is a gimmick in my opinion to give stupid people hope that there is an easy answer that is just around the corner. Maybe I have lost hope but my belief is that the carbon put into the atmosphere will not be extracted by humans, but will after 100s of years be absorbed into the ocean only if we stop our current emissions. Should we in the mean time lose our ice poles, glaciers and ocean currents, have heat destroy the fauna and flora while we do nothing. We have engineered this hot climate, can engineer it to be colder while we get our shit together.

My country is the only developing country to be on target of meeting our Paris climate accord targets, how thanks to government corruption that led to the unavailability of our power stations where we have for years have rolling blackouts, or loadshedding as we call it. Fucks up our economy not having enough electricity, but great for the environment. I know there are green solutions to help alleviate our problems but our government has vested coal interests. So the best we can do is put solar power systems in our own homes

  • I would take the $500 upfront and just log in to Squarespace or whatever website building service there is, do a simple design, tell him he needs to pay this subscription, argue with him and dad why there must be monthly or annual fees and they could have done this themselves for cheaper, whichever way they chose to pay the subscription or not I still get $500 for 2 hours work and the knowledge my father won’t bother me again with website designs

  • I did know they are already using the technology, so it is so cool for letting me know. Yes some data you do not need to have constant access, like security footage. Maybe 20 years from now a detective asks if you still have footage from that night where the serial nipple pincher first attacked, and boom they solved the mystery and Gotham will be safe again.

  • There are problems with physical medium as well. My father and I enjoy physical CDs, in my opinion they are the best. Yet my father’s collection is over 20 years old so disks are degrading. My collection was destroyed during a house break in, they threw them on the floor and stomped on them, fucking hooligans. So I stopped with physical media such as CDs due to this

  • If there really is a good story that wasn’t told, which is possible in this time travel universe, then I am all for it. Like episode 5 of star wars, terminator 2 or even recent examples blade runner 2049, there was a story to expand on the previous, not imitate the original.

Unfortunately sequels and remakes are now cash cows to milk existing IP’s for easy cash with minimal risk, since they tap into the goodwill of the existing fanbase. It leads to dilution of the original because they don’t take risk with the pre-, se-, or whatever -quel, and it leads to an inferior experience for the fan.
