  • I’m moving at the moment. Linux Mint is a good stable Windows alternative, but I wanted to separate gaming from other things so I am dual booting. I have had luck with Pop_OS! before but recently had issues with a laptop WiFi adapter, had some issues getting Bazzite working, so ended up with CachyOS, which has been really slick and easy so far.

A nice thing with Linux is how easy it is to cycle through a few distros if you have your main files on a different drive or partition, since you don’t lose anything important when switching that way.

  • There are a few things about Kodi that might help:

    1. There are themes thay completely change the UI, so it doesn’t have to be outdated. I use Arctic: Zephyr – Reloaded and it is much better, though I did change the noises to something else.
    2. The Jellyfin plugin works pretty seamlessly if you set up the UI correctly. I only use Kodi for Jellyfin and it acts as if it’s all local files, other than the occasional syncing notice.

However, I feel you on Netflix, YouTube, etc. - it is not ideal. I ended up either logging into a separate partition or moving to a Chromecast for those things. I’d love an all-in-one solution but I haven’t managed to find one that I’d be happy with.

  • Andy Demos on YouTube has a few Origin Effects demos that are good. I’ll admit to having bought a Chinese knockoff of one of their pedals because I wasn’t willing to spend that much on a compressor and it’s good enough that I’ll definitely buy a real one if I ever start gigging again (it’s one of the stacked ones).

You may know this but in case you don’t the Morning Glory is a modified Blues Breaker pedal, so you should be able to widen your search for alternatives with that.

The pedal brands I don’t think have good European alternatives are Empress, Chase Bliss, and Hologram Electronics because the digital side is strongly copyright protected, which unfortunately means less ability for builders to build on each other’s work. That said, there are still cool non-US pedals out there in that kinda space.

  • Ah, thanks for the answer, I’d missed this on the GH page. Unfortunately, that’s not what I’m after as I know I will end up with a complete mess of unusable notes or not use it at all if there are any stages of choosing a note type.

Ideally, I want version controlled, editable, searchable, taggable paper I don’t have to file away, which I can also type on and use other digital tools with (e.g for things like diagrams, spreadsheets). I haven’t seen anything particularly close to what I’m after yet but I’m hopeful that it’ll come eventually.

  • My personal idea/hope is that there is some other dimension of spacetime over which the big bang had directionality, emitting matter and antimatter across different poles, and that’s why. That’d also mean there’s an anti-universe, which is why I like the idea.

In terms of the galaxies, I believe there’s enough of an observable difference that I think we would be able to detect antimatter clusters, or similar, based on emission lines but I’m not 100% on that. Huge annihilation events from colliding galaxies and clusters would have massive energy signatures unlike anything else but the frequency of this would determine how likely it would be to see the evidence.
