Ostensibly the whole world has been online for enough time now. Yet everyone continues to demonstrate a remarkable lack of ability to grasp internet cultures.
It makes no sense. Like trying to explain technology to my elderly grandma. Except she knows she’s very old and out of touch. What’s everyone elses excuse. It’s made even worse because everyone else thinks they are digitial culture savvy.
There’s more computing power than ever but seemingly fewer services than ever.
Yes. Of course the big platforms actively seek to undermine competitors. There’s billions of dollars at stake. Something that really convinced me was reading about how Facebook ran VPN services to spy on traffic so they could spot budding competitor platforms.
We know reddit used bots at the beginning to generate activity to make the site look popular. Something I’m not convinced they ever stopped doing. I believe reddit corporate still bots their own site for whatever purpose they require in the moment. I absolutely believe they troll their own site. Remember spez is the guy who live edits the production database.
The account hasn’t been banned. From what I’ve seen in 10+ years redditing it’s extremely difficult to for right wing accounts to get banned. They incite violence or spread hate. Very rarely do the accounts get banned.
First and foremost reddit takes a long time to respond to reports. And then they rarely ever apply punitive action. So what you’ve seen here is pretty standard.
It’s systematic censorship of anyone that isn’t far right. I’ve had dozens if not hundreds of accounts silenced by attrition.
It used to be a thing on reddit to use alt accounts. So it was normal to have many accounts for anything and everything. Starting around 2016 when all this stupid shit start happening is when my accounts started dropped like flies.
Just this week another one was site wide banned because I remark on a post about Trumps physical report saying he could die and Republicans would claim he’s in perfect health. Banned for inciting violence.
What the right has been doing is systematically biasing the moderation on social platforms. So that anyone that mentions so much as a word relating to violence (such as war or someones personal health status) can plausibly be linked to a negative connoation. Thereby they can argue it break some rule.
Block is useless on lemmy. They can still cause a nuisance. Just becuase you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there…
I saved so much money due to csg threads.
Privatization probably.
How do you know it will? Stagnation is a thing in the US stock market as much as ‘line go up’ is a thing.
If anything millennials have had it better than anyone else. If your brain hasn’t hemorrhaged from reading that sentence then consider that what you are saying is only being said because millennials have seen the one of most incredible bull runs ever.
If you’re 35 years old that means you started your big boy career job about 15 years ago. In other words your investment portfolio if you were one of the individuals smart enough to begin diligently investing from the start. Look at the SP500 15 years ago. It was the bottom of the recession. The SP500 has gone in a straight line up from about 700 to 6000. So only a modest what like 800% gain. Of course it’s easy to say ‘cheap stock’ every time a big drop happens.
Now look at the 15 year period after the Dotcom bust. Now try the 1970s through the better part of the 1980s. Long periods of stagnation. Sideways moving stock market.
People need to be ready to stomach effectively zero gains until age 50 as much as you can tell them the SP500 could hit 12000 in the same period. There’s no guarantees unless your frame of reference is only the past 15 years. Then of course it is easy to say line always go up.
Infinite scroll is suited for current events putting negative pressures against content creation. Content creation became an economy. Commoditization of content sucked the life out of it all.
Those who take issue with loss of profits without ads must take it up with big tech. They’ve have literal trillions of dollars from dominating the ad industry. They have your money. Nobody else.
Fight fire with fire. Assume their gender. 🙂
They have old/orphaned dependencies on their machine. It’s hanging on a by thread. They have no idea the packages have disappeared years ago. The house of cards is a bit flip away from collapsing.
I’m posting this from Mars colony. Amazing isn’t it.
It’s not that arbitrary. Gen-X are the first generation of boomer children. Millennials are the second generation of boomer children who grew up with the internet. These are real events.
People find it easy to fit boomers into a tidy box. Ask the boomers born on the cusp of boomer and gen-x. It’s arbitrary bullshit too. It’s not like baby boomers all came from the boomer factory and then one day they decided, ‘that’s it the boomer factory’s closed’.
They want to virtue signal trivial social issues to avoid admitting they’re just plain conservative.
Americans are going to take this as a statement that Canada themselves are paying the tariffs.
Forums were micromanaged far more than modern social platforms. Reddit is one of the “free speech absolutist” sites like its sibling 4chan. These were opposing paradigms to forums.
I’ve long contended that modern social media users would absolutely hate the old style forums. If people think subreddit mods and reddit content mods suck. They haven’t met the admin of Joe Bobs phpbb forum hosted from his garage. Joe Bob doesn’t suffer fools gladly.
I don’t think it’s a free speech problem. I think people have not only been conditioned to be content junkies. They’ve become addicted to being Greater Fuckwads.
Maybe nobody cares what you think and whatever your words are they aren’t that important. Social media has devoured peoples egos turning them into the Greatest Fuckwads. With social media everyone has a podium and everyone has very important words with billions of doomscrollers as an audience. Don’t you dare steppy my freedoms!!1!
Anyways I think the real test is whether people can handle a small forum with strict moderation and focused discussion. That will reveal who has half a brain apart from the fuckwads. I’ve seen people come to what are now basically private forums acting like a garden variety social media user only to get smacked down real quick. A sobering dose of reality for them.
The podcast called Sold a Story talks about how the school systems adopted a curriculum that doesn’t teach kids how to read. They are more like mimicking literacy. It gives appearances they they are reading but they aren’t comprehending.
