  • You don’t even need plants with feelings. Grain fields carry all the field animals like rabbits and rodents. Those animals flee from cleared land into long grass

So as combine harvesters clear the fields the animals are concentrated into smaller and smaller areas

Harvester operators call the last acre ‘the bloody acre’ due to the number of animals cut up by the harvester blades

You can’t eat without animal deaths unless you go to the extreme of just eating fruit you pick yourself

Also the monoculture fields are destroying the land. We need permaculture solutions and there isn’t a way to do that without animals to fertilize the land

Email is quite a bit safer than people think, especially if you host your own. Typically it is encrypted from point to point, so if a company emails me it goes through their internal system to their gateway, is encrypted using SSL and transmitted directly to my server where it’s stored until I connect over an SSL encrypted link to download my mail

Even an ISP will have almost everything encrypted as it really is the default now

There’s practically no chance for a man in the middle attack

I do accept unencrypted mail but nothing arrives on port 25 (unencrypted email) except scam attempts to get spam forwarded (which are denied)

-i asks for an interactive session

I use sudo su because running su with no options also gets you an interactive session without having to type anything but letters and a space

Both of these are for when you want a session as root which is nearly never necessary, but sometimes it’s more convenient that a set of commands preceded by sudo
