That is your opinion. I disagree. You are born into a country without being asked and would be forced to move your life to a country based on if they force you to die if they deem it necessary. That has nothing to do with democracy and freedom.
Apart from that, the UN agrees with me in human rights resolution 1995/83 “conscientious objection to military service”. It is also a human right not to be sent to die against your will just to save a state. Because fighting in a war does not mean you save the people in said country. Think about it.
I still think it should be your duty. Otherwise you never were a real part of the country. I feel it mostly depends on the attackers and your chances of winning. If your friends and family have been part of the collective that has been protecting you your whole life, and those lives are in danger, it’s extremely selfish to just sit back and hope for the best.
That said, protecting a country is not the same as your loved ones. You can do that with a gun sitting at your window. Also it strongly depends on why you are supposed to defend it.
Because honestly, protecting nazi germany was one’s duty at the time. I would have shot myself before i’d have done that.
It is incredibly important to not pass rash judgement but think about the implications beforehand.
Also some food for thought: you see killing as a must for living in a country. Maybe ask yourself why you think that. What good does it do to kill other people? The vast majority of lost life in battles in the last 50 years wasnt in justified wars but to protect capital interests. Maybe lets not die for money?

I have asked myself this. Now you should ask yourself if you would wish to submit to Russian rule as a Ukrainian.
It isn’t. You’re living in a country that has been protecting you your whole life. People often forget this. If you don’t want to fight for the country you live in. Go someplace else. Otherwise you’re just selfish.
I’m sorry, but this take feels like it comes from the mind of a thirteen year old with zero understanding of how the world works. There are far, far more ways to contribute back to a country than going to die for it.
You’re morally corrupt.
Why? You’re a citizen so it’s your duty to protect your country. If you don’t want that, go to a country that wouldn’t care.
People that take advantage of their country but not fight for it are the immoral ones.

It’s of course your right to think and say that.

Good. I also have. If you tell me your thoughts, i’ll tell you mine.
I do not remember signing up for a meat fodder to protect oligarch’s money lol
Conscription is immoral. If you sign up to fight for your country, and you run away, well that’s a lot more morally ambiguous.

You’re making this very personal so I’m just going to block you. You’re clearly just a privileged person who should stop projecting.
