Yesterday my cat took a shit. Then stepped into it with his back paw and proceeded to try and shake it off all over the house. I was playing “find the specs of turd” for hours after while he followed me around demanding a treat 🤷‍♂️

Their instinct to cover their waste so that predators aren’t alerted is the same reason they barf on fabric or carpet. We have a kitty with a sensitive stomach who pukes on the bath mat every week because we have wood floors. I love her, but goddamn.

Yeah. Soft furnishings like carpet, rugs, sofas and beds all feel a lot more “natural” to cats, as if they are outside on the grass, so they prefer to do it there.

Unlucky for us it’s the absolute last place we want them to be doing it.

Our elder cat, who’s nearing the 20-year mark, has recently taken to sleeping by my seat on the sofa, meaning that I’m finding surprise barf cushions with increasing frequency. I just started draping a blanket over the area.

  • The only good thing about a cat vomiting is that they generally give plenty of warning so you can move them or put something in front of them to puke in. At least, in my experience, they tend to make hacking/gagging noises for like 10-15 minutes before actually puking.

But much to expect it to get it all in one tile. I mean it’s only 6” square.

My cat almost barfed on my bed yesterday. Thankfully I noticed she was going to vomit before that, so I picked her up and put her on the floor. She wasn’t exactly happy.
