The European Union is reassessing its ties with China strained relations with the United States. Tensions with the U.S., including trade wars and shifting alliances, have pushed EU leaders to explore reducing reliance on Washington.
I understand if Europe is no longer in love with the US but I fail to see how partnering with China is in Europe’s interest, let alone strengthens their strategic autonomy.
Surely it all depends how “partnering” is defined, since countries are already interdependent and that’s a good thing. IMO China is doing a service to the world with its green tech revolution. The question remains as to how to protect ourselves against its surveillance and manipulation tech.
PS: I hedged my viewpoint as carefully as possible (“surely”, “IMO”) but still people can’t resist downvoting it as worthless… What does social media do to people’s minds to make them like this?
China’s “service to the world” is delivered by forced labour and coercion, the Chinese party-state serves itself and itself only. It doesn’t make sense for Europe to substitute Russian fossil fuels by Chinese renewable energy tech.
