I think that you are not allowed to speak freely on most platforms. And when i say speak freely i dont mean to have right to offend people, just to have right to normaly tell your opinion.
Freedom of speech is often confused with a right to say what you want on any platform, but it’s not the same. As long as you can host your own website, say whatever you want on it and have the website be accessible to other people, there is freedom of speech on the internet. That’s not the case in all countries, but in many it is. But getting banned on Twitter for writing “cisgender” or getting your post removed on Lemmy doesn’t really touch your free speech whatsoever.
Freedom of speech is not just the right to speak into a void; it includes the practical ability to reach people. Dominant communities are the modern public squares. If you’re banned from these, your ability to participate in discourse shrinks dramatically because that’s where the audience is.
When a handful of people enforce rules unevenly or with bias, they shape what ideas can spread.
Well imagine this. If you live in a city where you are not allowed to speak freely on city major centar and you are alloved to speak freely in your ovn home where there is non around. Is that realy a free speach city?
So im allowed to speak freely on myown website that noone knows even exist, but im not allowed to speak freely on twiter or so called x where eweryone are…
Free speach means that twiter shouldnt be allowed to delete any coment that isnt offending someone directly.
Or if they have a power to do so than we all shouldnt use twiter. We should use some more free platform like lemmy… Or some other, fell free to sujest.
People aren’t entitled to having their opinion heard by strangers
You dont have to hear me, you dont have to read my comments or posts. And that will not do all rhe people, just ones that find it interesting. So removing and deleting my post is harming those who would read it and learn something from it.
Come on. Cough it up. What weird unsolicited evangelical message have you been posting on people’s YouTube channels?
There are three factors that might prevent you from using an online platform to share your opinion:
-
The government might impose content restrictions on the platform
-
The owners (or delegated moderators) of the platform might impose restrictions on its users
-
The users of the platform might use its tools to police the opinions of other users.
“Freedom of speech” normally just applies to the first. Is that what you mean when you say you’re not “allowed” to speak freely?
Well its realy simple. When i sad i im not allowed to speak frely i mean this. On youtube i post a comment with my opinion not offending anyone and the youtuber delete my comment. I dont want to be on such a platform where every youtuber has a power to silence people. Dthats not fair. In second case i post a comment and youtuber doesnt mind it, but youtube itself delets my comment. Again didnt offend anyone just trying to spread the truth. And its the same for reddit and other popular platforms.
Thats why i respect Lbry, because its place where you in theory should have freedom to speak your mind and noone should have right to silence you.
Thats why i like lemmy also.
Dthats not fair
Why should a content creator not be allow to curate the experience his/her audience sees when they watch the content they produce? They don’t owe you shit.
Just trying to spread the truth
What truth exactly? That sounds very subjective.
Content creator made a video not comment section. It shouldnt be allowed to controll what people have to say about the video, its their free will. Its free speach. If you delete anyone who have something negative to say about you and leave only positive comments thats directly deceiving of your audience. For example you make video about doing something bad and 80% of people judge you but you delete them and leave only 20% of comment that say “hahaha nailed it” you are decieving your audience that will think noone had anything to say which means people are scum but in reality majority of people judged you but you have the power to silence everyone. Its the same for fake videos if i see something is fake i should have right to say hey people this is scam it doesnt work that way. For example blowing in a jar with flower wont help your nose breath better. It will just blow flower in your ies…
Stay here long enough and you’ll get banned for saying the wrong thing, you can even get banned for downvoting the wrong thing.
Jea but on lemmy that depends on server and on comynity. And you can alvause go to some other comunity or some other server that isnt darkend by censore…

There’s a conversation that could be had about how there are no truly public platforms on the web. Ultimately, everywhere you can speak is owned by someone, and any community you build exists at their mercy. This can exert a lot of pressure on a community’s standards and beliefs, and when I started using the internet, abusing this was a major faux pas.
However, that conversation requires a lot of nuance and patience. You are kind of transparently posting this in response to a moderator in another community removing your posts. If you’d like to complain about that, there’s actually a community specifically for that.
By the by, free speech complaints have become strongly associated with certain political movements as dog whistles. You might want to look into that and make sure you want to present that image.
How long have you been using the internet?
Wery long, why do you ask?
Anything that doesn’t go against international laws should be allowed
How do you mean internacional laws? Isnt the point of having ourown country to have aurown laws?
Countries law should respect international law. Like a private company also can’t impose a rule that go against law against discriminatio for example or any fundamental right
So what if one country doesnt agree with one specific internacional law, and doesnt want to respect it?
I don’t think it is right but nothing can really stop them.
Thats good, because if i didnt agree to laws than they shouldnt be pushed onto me. Laws are something that we should chose, if we dont chose them than who will? Back in the days there were laws that sad black man are for sale so why should i have respact for laws in general? If i personaly didnt approve them…
The universe and planet itself has it’s own rules that we can’t change even if we want to so the idea that everybody could choose their own rules no matter how extreme they could be make zero sense to me.
The idea that individuals could pick and choose their own laws regardless of if they make sense or can hurt other would only cause chaos and violence. Of course, not all legislation is good; history teaches us that some legislation, such as laws permitting slavery, was very immoral. That’s why societies need mechanisms to challenge and modify unfair legislation.
I think the best system is direct democracy
Well its obviosly imposible for every single person to chose their ovn lavs but thats why you should have diferent countries where you can move if you agree to their laws. Like there are diferent states with diferent laws. So if you dont like laws in your state and like laws in another you move there. So people with same ideas have their group and their space. That way we can compare states and see whic one have better laws objectivly. And can copy that in our state. Bushing same laws on everyone is bad idea…
Several times now I have had my comments deleted for “hate speech” for criticizing political actions or calling out hypocrisy or blatant lies or misinformation.
Then a comment in that same post will be cheering and applauding and laughing at the inhumane and ethnic cleansing taking place. They will proudly say “I voted for this and hope they all suffer” and it stays.
I don’t care at all about my comments, per se, but it is depressing thinking how much that probably happens all the time. How many legitimate comments get removed because of a mod’s bias, while actual hate speech and misinformation stays.
Yea exsactly, thats what im talking about. Thats why i think we should have platform that wont delete our comments. Thats why i support lbry desktop app because its 100 times better than youtube.
