  • I’m only in mid-six figures and I’ll admit I benefit and the poor suffer. If there was no immigrant labor general goods would cost more, and I’d feel the drag paying more for what is cheaper… like I will soon when we’re all competing with dollars for a share if smaller harvests. I predict we’ll feel it hard around thanksgiving.

The only solutions locally are discovery of more economic ways to produce, or importing from cheaper parts of the world. We’ve been covering our eyes on where the chicken comes from for years, and we’re going to learn a hard lesson by going cold turkey.

  • Some interesting history from the song (I lived there as a kid). The lyric “In Birmingham they love the governor, now we all did what we could do,” is about Wallace winning the whole state but losing Birmingham soundly. To pay them back, he shut off road funding, and for years, the interstates stopped in midair on the way into town.

Edit: to talk about the state itself, it has some of the worst roads in the nation. The beaches are flat and rather milquetoast. The pine forests are beautiful when it’s not hot and humid. There have been a number of comments about the wealth disparity, and that’s big all along the gulf of mexico.

The battleship in Mobile is pretty cool, though.

  • 80 - a charcoal drawing on a rag of a child and adult with a heart around it

81 - a letter from a mother saying there is no crops, but they know Pelor will provide

    82 - a pressed flower crown

83 - a tax notice, warning of foreclosure

84 - a letter warning a local prince wants to abduct this person, and to flee rather than give in

85 - a threat from a cult of Bahl, demanding gold or the death of their family.

  • I got love bombed and stripped of my support network over time. After the divorce it took about 5 years to rebuild my friend network. She’s still the same as she ever was. I kept being myself, and I’ve bloomed as a strong member of my community and my life is much better than coming home to play a grey man for a narcissist.

It. Will. Get. Better. Celebrate the freedom from a bad situation. Be who you are, and the best version of that. I spent days crying in the beginning, but I went through it and I’m strong now. Hopefully you find that seed in yourself as well.
