If not friend, why friend shaped?
I’m tired. I think I’m emotionally burnt out.
I have monkey toes. I use my feet as hands if I’m barefoot. Drop a pen? Not bending over for that. Cat drops the ball at my feet. Well just going to hand it up to myself.
I don’t like touching dirty things with my hands, so I’ll lift the lid off a bin with my foot.
I thought I was going to have a relaxed day today, but a minor emergency at work (that I’ve managed to fix already) has thrown all my plans in disarray.
Thank you!
Thank you for that recommendation! I also subscribe to https://www.positive.news/ which has a nice selection of science, environment and human interest items.
Thank you for letting me know about that piefed community! That might just be the place for me 😊
True, but I also see that on posts like these there are comments engaging positively with the post, so some members here are okay with this type of content.
I feel like there’s going to be some fracture of this community either way: one group is going to have to look elsewhere for their uplifting news with or without schadenfreude. As there doesn’t appear to be much active mod presence here the easiest way forward feels like just creating a new community with a “no schadenfreude” rule. It’s a more productive use of my time to actively moderate a new community than it is to constantly report posts here.
I’m up for starting a new one without the “bad things happening to disagreeable people” posts if that’s something you’d be interested in seeing?
Is this community just going to become about schadenfreude? Because if so that’s fine, but it’s not what I’m looking for and I’d rather unsubscribe.
If you don’t mind a bit of DIY it wouldn’t be too difficult to remove the frets on a regular guitar (some guitars like Gibsons are trickier than others). You could then fill the fret slot and file it down to the same level as the board for a fretless guitar.
Oooh sorry that was a reading comprehension fail on my part. Thank you for clarifying!
Oh no! what has she done that’s bigoted? (I did a quick search and couldn’t find anything).
I enjoy her word nerdery so I’d be disappointed to find out she’s iffy.
I get all that, but I don’t understand how privilege comes into it.
You’re describing schadenfreude, which I’m not expressing any judgement on. But it’s reasonable for people, including myself, to not find schadenfreude uplifting and to question if an Uplifting News community is the right place for it.
Nobody’s screeching. I wanted to point out that not feeling joy at a potentially fatal misfortune has nothing to do with privilege, which is what I understood your comment to imply.
You’re right, nobody died this time. Good news I guess.
Feeling the hell the planet is becoming doesn’t mean feeling pleasure at the (near) deaths of people.
Oh thank you, I haven’t read Fallen Dragon and it sounds exactly the kind of book I’d enjoy, so it’s going on my reading list.
I’ve been reading the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers and I’ve really been enjoying them. They’re not hard sci fi but the stories are engaging and I really like how the characters interact with each other.
Also, if you haven’t read any Alistair Reynolds I’d highly recommend any/all of his books. Harder sci fi but also incredibly well-thought out.
I appreciate the balance!
Oh wow I had no idea survivors were forced to give testimonies that quickly. That’s awful.
We are so not surviving in the wild
