Ooooh now this is interesting. My first reaction was “hah, yeah exactly!”. But then I thought: this image of text contains more information than just the textual content. For example:

    • The words are someone else’s, not OP’s
    • They were sourced from a different social media network to this one

Also, it may be due to the prevalence of smartphone use in interacting with Lemmy vs using a traditional computer: it’s often quicker and easier to take and share a screenshot of text than it is to select, copy and paste that text.

I’m not saying you’re wrong. I just read your comment at the time my morning coffee really hit, and it spawned an interesting chain of thoughts.

So… thank you. And sorry for inflicting this braindump.

Are you a breeder, dog trainer or dog handler?

Because that’s not how it works. You can breed for particular traits, as you mentioned, but behavioural characteristics (such as aggression) are more complex than simple genetic traits. You could breed two highly aggressive dogs together and get a placid dog as a result.

You’re talking about behavioural characteristics, not skills. Dogs don’t know how to fight without training any more than people know how to drive a car without lessons.

And as far as aggressive behaviour goes, pitbulls aren’t necessarily any more or less aggressive than other breeds. There have been lots of studies on aggression in dogs that show that breed is not a good predictor of behavioural tendencies (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9679229/).

  • I have monkey toes. I use my feet as hands if I’m barefoot. Drop a pen? Not bending over for that. Cat drops the ball at my feet. Well just going to hand it up to myself.

I don’t like touching dirty things with my hands, so I’ll lift the lid off a bin with my foot.

I thought I was going to have a relaxed day today, but a minor emergency at work (that I’ve managed to fix already) has thrown all my plans in disarray.

  • True, but I also see that on posts like these there are comments engaging positively with the post, so some members here are okay with this type of content.

I feel like there’s going to be some fracture of this community either way: one group is going to have to look elsewhere for their uplifting news with or without schadenfreude. As there doesn’t appear to be much active mod presence here the easiest way forward feels like just creating a new community with a “no schadenfreude” rule. It’s a more productive use of my time to actively moderate a new community than it is to constantly report posts here.
